Meet Robert

Robert Dekker is a policy analyst and political strategist with strong connections across Canada’s capital. A firm believer in civic engagement as a driver for positive change, Robert has worked with community and political stakeholders and organizations to advance practical solutions to local challenges.

He currently works on Parliament Hill and brings experience in public policy, community development, and organizational leadership.

Robert has long been active in his community. He served two terms as president of the Board of Directors of Daybreak Housing, a non-profit supportive housing organization. Most recently, Robert was president of the Centretown Community Association before stepping down to run for Councillor in Somerset Ward. Robert is also involved in initiatives to assist Canadian veterans and promote community well-being.

After growing up in Scarborough and Mississauga, Robert began his career as a radio announcer in Stratford, Ontario, before moving to Ottawa with his family to work as a call centre manager for Bell Canada.

Robert has lived in the Golden Triangle for 20 years, where he has remained actively involved in local community life. Rob lives with his partner and has two adult children.

Robert is running for City Council to work with residents to build a safer, stronger Somerset Ward.

Rob believes in listening first, working collaboratively, and focusing on practical results.
